An average calculator computes the mean, median and mode of any list of numbers, plus the count, sum and range. Paste your numbers separated by commas, spaces or line breaks. The readout leads with the mean, and the full breakdown sits underneath.
How to use it
- Paste or type your numbers, separated by commas, spaces or new lines.
- Read the mean in the readout.
- Check the median and mode underneath to see how the data is centered.
What each number means
Mean: the sum divided by the count, the everyday “average”. Median: the middle value when sorted, resistant to outliers. Mode: the most frequent value, useful for categories and repeated measurements.
Worked example
Sum = 108, count = 6
Mean = 108 ÷ 6 = 18
Median = (15 + 16) ÷ 2 = 15.5
Mode: no repeating values
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mean, median and mode?
Mean is the arithmetic average. Median is the middle value of the sorted list. Mode is the value that appears most often. They answer different questions about the same data.
When should I use median instead of mean?
When outliers skew the picture. House prices and incomes are usually reported as medians because a few extreme values would drag the mean away from the typical case.
How do I calculate a percentage average?
Enter the percentages as plain numbers (85, 92, 78) and read the mean. If the items carry different weights, use a weighted average instead: multiply each value by its weight first.
