An RMD calculator tells you the minimum you must withdraw from a traditional IRA or 401(k) for 2026. Enter your age on December 31, 2026 and your account balance on December 31, 2025. The tool divides the balance by your IRS Uniform Lifetime Table divisor and shows the required distribution.
How to use it
- Enter your age on the last day of 2026.
- Enter the account balance on the last day of 2025 (last year’s New Year’s Eve statement).
- Read your 2026 RMD. That is the minimum; you may always withdraw more.
The formula
Example divisor: 26.5 at age 73, 24.6 at 75, 20.2 at 80, 16.0 at 85.
Worked example
Divisor for 73: 26.5
2026 RMD = 500,000 ÷ 26.5 = $18,867.92

Frequently asked questions
What age do RMDs start in 2026?

Which balance do I use?
The prior year-end balance: for your 2026 RMD, the balance on December 31, 2025, adjusted for any outstanding rollovers.
What happens if I miss an RMD?
The IRS can assess an excise tax on the amount you failed to withdraw. If you realize you missed one, withdraw it as soon as possible and talk to a tax professional. This is general information, not tax advice.
